Upper house defense committee approves US countersanctions bill
MOSCOW, Apr 26 (PRIME) -- The defense committee of the Federation Council, the parliament’s supreme chamber, has supported a draft on retaliation against the new U.S. sanctions without additional remarks or proposals, the committee said in a statement on Thursday.
“The committee has no remarks or proposals to the concept of the draft,” it said, adding that the bill meets Russian interests.
“The federal law bill is good for the interests of the Russian Federation and will also favor strengthening of territorial integrity and security of the Russian Federation, and will prevent destabilization in Russia.”
On April 6, the U.S. imposed sanctions against 38 Russian tycoons, officials and companies. The Russian authorities are preparing a bill on counter-sanctions restricting employment of U.S. citizens, stopping nuclear and aircraft cooperation, banning imports of rare earth metals, U.S.-made agricultural, alcoholic, tobacco products and software.
